Effexor – General Overview
Permanent anxiety, apathy, sadness, thoughts about suicide, low spirit, sleeping disorders – are just few symptoms of depressive state. If not treated the number of symptoms will increase day by day and psychological state of the patient will worsen.
The best treatment of depression combines an effective antidepressant and psychological consultation with a good specialist. Alongside with a rich variety of antidepressant medications Effexor represents an extended-release capsule or pills for oral administration that contains venlafaxine hydrochloride, first marketed by Wyeth in 1993 under the names Effexor (tablets) and Effexor XR (extended-release). It is used to treat various types of disorders such as panic disorder, anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and other forms of depressive condition.
As a rule, the recommended initial dosage for Effexor is 75mg per day, given in two or three divided doses. The pills should be taken with food. Taking into consideration the tolerability of the drug and the need for further clinical effect, the dose may be increased to 150mg per day, or to 225mg per day if needed. Those patients with more sever depressed state, may require even higher doses, up to a maximum of 375mg per day, normally in three divided doses during a day.
Effexor works by affecting neurotransmitter activity in the central nervous system. Its main function is to balance substances within the brain in order to improve the mood of patients taking the drug.
