Zoloft a new generation antidepressant

Depressive condition at the current moment is one of the most common psychological disorders. Amongst them a significant role is held by endogenous depressions, meaning those that by its origin are caused not by external factors or somatic diseases, which are appear autochtonusly, as a result of disorders of nervous-psychic system of the organism.

Amongst methods of endogenous depressions treatment the most widespread drugs are antidepressants of the third generation, which are a class of pharmacological preparations called selective inhibitors of serotonin reuptake. Amongst them are Fluoxetine (Prozac), Sertraline (Zoloft), Paroxetine (Paxil).

Multiple scientific research of this group of drugs and comparison of Zoloft and other analogues with tricyclic antidepressants, which are traditionally used in depression treatment, has shown their high effectiveness, with a lesser degree of side-effects. However it has been determined that every antidepressant of the group has its own peculiarities in the effect achieved, and should be used individually.

Zoloft is characterized by a rapid onset of therapeutic effects, from the 3-d day of treatment, which becomes apparent at the second week of use. The spectrum of Zoloft antidepressant activity is characterized by anxiolytic effects and the drug is mostly indicated in treatment of mild to moderate depressive syndrome, especially in depressions associated with anxiety and phobic manifestations.
